On July 8, a series of powerful earthquakes and aftershocks struck Santa María de Jesús—the mountain town where Nueva Vida serves children with disabilities and their families.

Homes were damaged, landslides cut off road access, and essential services were disrupted. For days, families went without electricity, clean water, or access to food and medical care.

With heavy hearts, we also share that one of our students, 13-year-old Carlos Cuy, lost his life in a landslide that day. His loss is deeply felt by our team, our school, and the entire Nueva Vida community.

In the midst of sorrow, we are responding—with care, with love, and with the resources God places in our hands.

Our team has been delivering food, clean water, medicine, hygiene items, and other essential supplies to families in greatest need. While road access remains limited, a steep 4×4-accessible route carved into the mountainside is allowing us to reach families with urgent aid. We are hopeful the main road will reopen in the coming days.

We are still in active response mode. But we are also beginning to look ahead: to safe shelter, emotional and spiritual care, and long-term rebuilding.
